BMW’s new and first ever plug-in hybrid i8 sports coupe is expected to go on sale next spring. BMW announced pricing for the US market which is $135,925 including destination charges. The new coupe will outputs 362 horsepower and 420 lb ft of torque which is quite reasonable for a car with 3,300 lbs weight and low drag co-efficient of 0.26. BMW combined these powerful specs with an advanced carbon fiber structure which made it more efficient and effective. The car has an ability to run up to 20 miles and the gas mileage might reach to 50 mpg. Another coupe from BMw will also hit the dealership by the end of 2014 as 2015 model year and is a smaller battery electric car.
The car is constructed of a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) mated with an aluminum rolling platform that keeps electric motors, battery packs, and a rear mounted 1.5 liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine (in case of i8). Compared to i3, the i8 looks really amazing and attractive.
The BMw’s new i8 coupe accommodates 2+2 seats and the car accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. The coupes have really notable design features such as doors that opens upward just like wings, full LED headlamps with laser headlights making it the world’s first car where such headlights are legal. The car rolls over standard 20 inch alloy wheels. This is a perfect option for all those who want to enjoy a sportier performance of a coupe in a really lightweight feel and without the heavy consumption of conventional V6 and V8 engines. For maximum output and extra fun, the driver can even use both the power sources collectively which makes the i8 coupe an all wheel drive vehicle that performs as a supercar. Well, it is really enthusiastic but the enthusiasts have to wait till the end of this year.
